Now I know that the rubber guard is a great set-up for the straight arm bar or the triangle but I can never seem to get it, any suggestions?

Mastering the rubber gaurd by eddy bravo would be a good read for you

if your having trouble with getting it set up then you need to work on your flexibilty that will help alot try doing some streching or yoga when ever you get a chance

I agree. In order to be effective you have to be either flexible or have very long legs.

start of using rubber gaurd on the new guy or less experienced fighters at your gym. I know this sounds wrong but it works. as you become more effecient step your level of competition up.rubber gaurd takes time and flexability but once you get it down its a great tool to have.

    good luck

If you're not that flexible, make sure you stretch a lot. Especially if you plan on practicing it for extended periods of time.

Flexibility is veryimportant in jiujitsu, not just for rubber guard. If you can't do rubber guard right now, learn your other guards in the mean time while continuing to work towards the rubber guard flexibility wise by stretching everyday.

Flexibility is one of the main components for MMA. Stretching is very important. A comon mistake alot of ppl make is that they do all of their stretching before they train. This can lead to injury. You should do some stretching b4 you train but not much. The best thing you can do is WARM up the muscle by do some kind of cardio like the treadmill or bike for 15 to 20 minutes. Then a briefly stretch your entire body. The best time to stretch is after you have completed your traing for the day weather it be weight traing or MMA training. 15 minutes of stretching after your workout will make a big difference in your flexibility
